Walmart Helps WWII Veterans Honor Fallen Comrades

Thirty or so members of the Greatest Generation will visit Washington, D.C., to see the World War II Memorial this autumn, courtesy of the Walmart Foundation. Walmart Stores Inc. on Wednesday confirmed its $20,000 donation to WNY Heroes, a veterans’ outreach program organized by the office of state Sen. George D. Maziarz, R-Newfane. WNY Heroes arranges “honor flights” for local World War II veterans so they can see the magnificent memorial built for their fallen comrades, as well as other war memorials and Arlington National Cemetery. The one-day trips are free to the vets, since Maziarz’s office finds sponsors to underwrite costs including round-trip airfare and meals.
