Business Recognises Value of an Emerging Force
Some of the biggest global companies have got behind a campaign to target the world’s third-largest emerging market after China and India – women. Coca-Cola, Wal-Mart, Goldman Sachs and Standard Chartered Bank are part of a group that has launched a high-profile campaign called The Third Billion to tap into women’s potential as employees, business owners and consumers, says Beth Brooke, the global vice chair of public policy at Ernst & Young, which is also a member. It’s a project that fits in well with many of the International Women’s Day activities this week. Most are about enhancing economic opportunities as awareness grows that much new income growth over the next few years will go to women, due to a narrowing wage gap and rising female employment.
